About Me:
|
I grew up in a house full of artwork. My mother was a painter working in oils, I was often the model.
Not wanting to follow in her footsteps I began working in clay in 1971 at the age of 16. Apprenticed with well known Ontario potter Jack Herman before going to Sheridan College School of Design.
Following Sheridan I ran Bestwood Farm Pottery in Southern Ontario. In 1980 I moved to Cape Breton Island, off Nova Scotia's north eastern shore. There I built Mudworks Pottery and proceeded to work in high fire Stoneware, porcelain and Raku.
I have received many awards. Including a Art Gallery of Nova Scotia Acquisition, (permanent collection) and having a work featured on the AGNS brochure cover 1995 Art Lottery.
During my 5 years as President of the Nova Scotia Potters Guild I was instrumental in procuring 1995 as "Hands on Clay the Year of Earth and Fire" Which included a year long, Canada wide traveling exhibition of local artists work :)
I have taught clay to Adults and Children of all ages, though both Tourism and Culutre, the Findley Centre, Nova Scotia Designer Craft Council, local schools and my own studio. Love teaching and have been told I have a knack for it ;)
In 95 I moved to Halifax, where I continued potting for several years before taking a sabbatical and one of those other jobs, which has lasted for (OMG) 10 years.
In frustration, and needing an outlet I picked up a digital Canon five years ago and have been enjoying photographing the backyard ever since.
Having done a couple of professional photo shoots to date I would love to branch out given the opportunity :) If you made it this far, I'd like to thank you for taking the time.
Feel free to browse my Galleries, leave a comment or critique if you like, and I shall do my best in returning the same ...
